Blogs are a great way to glean information and insight into topics – for free. So when you find a source that gives helpful advice and critical thought mixed with industry insight you want to bookmark that page and schedule some time to check it out each week.
I try to read my blog list at least every two weeks. I have a long list of blogs that are specific to marketing that I read to help keep me up to date on technical platform skills e.g. Google Analytics. By blocking off an hour or so every two weeks it gives me permission to let my mind go deep into a subject. In return this knowledge allows me to add additional insight into client work.
From my blog list, I’m sharing my top three marketing/small business blogs that I regularly get great nuggets from:
Great overall content that engages and informs. Industry nuggets that help keep me informed about a wide range of topics.
Ideas and Insights to Grow your Business: Social Media, Finance, Culture, Personal Development, Digital Marketing, Legal, content marketing. And even though it’s connected to a product (Infusionsoft) their focus is on entrepreneurs and small to mid-sized business – so it’s in their interest to help you grow!
I love their big thinking pieces. They regularly offer insight into bigger picture topics with subjects ranging from developing employees, organizational culture, business writing, and leadership. The articles promote thought and reflection and are usually well researched. The reader comments are usually also thought out and interesting.
This last one isn’t really a blog but a collection of articles that gets updated frequently – sort of a news site for small business.
It can seem a bit chaotic at first glance and if you’re not careful you’ll fall down the rabbit hole and before you know it it’s 3 hours later. However, you can get a good sense of things by scanning the headlines or looking under specific headings along the top e.g. Digital & Social, Business & Finance, etc.
What blogs to you check out when you have time? What are your go-to sources?
